Abstract

Changes in the law are a vital process in the legal system of a developing country and can evolve over time. The issue of the lawsuit outcome regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates has drawn attention from various media outlets due to legal changes following the Constitutional Court's decision. A study aimed to analyze how online media outlets Detik.com and Kompas.com framed news regarding the issue and the image of the Constitutional Court concerning the lawsuit outcome from October 11-26, 2023. This qualitative study used Zhongdang Pan and M. Kosicki's framing analysis method to depict the news structure in terms of syntax, script, theme, and rhetoric. Findings revealed that Detik.com focused more on the inconsistency of the Constitutional Court judges' stances, while Kompas.com emphasized the familial relationship between the Chief Justice and Jokowi. Overall, the Constitutional Court's image was portrayed negatively as reckless, lacking unity, embroiled in conflicts of interest, inconsistent, and not fulfilling its role in deciding on the lawsuit regarding the age limit for presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
