This research analyzes the meaning of the book cover illustration "Taring Padi: Seni Membongkar Tirani" (2011) using Roland Barthes' semiotic framework. The Taring Padi art collective, formed in 1998, represents a progressive art movement that uses visual works as instruments of socio-political critique in Indonesia's reform era. Using qualitative semiotic analysis methods, this research examines the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings of the woodcut illustration. The results reveal five significant sign elements: the red star as an ideological symbol, the masses representing collective power, raised fists symbolizing resistance, radial lines depicting the spread of consciousness, and the title as an artistic-political manifesto. The woodcut technique itself contains semiotic significance that reinforces the ideological position. In conclusion, the Taring Padi book cover illustration manifests a political vision and the function of art as a tool for liberation that can awaken critical consciousness in society toward structural injustice.
